Imus was never on the "Time Machine". Based on his over air comments about it at the time, he wasn't a fan of playing oldies on WNBC. I once heard him say something like "It's absurd to think we can beat Ron Lundy over on WCBS-FM".

The daytime/weekday staff at WNBC did not do "Time Machine" shifts. It was a separate staff of Dale Parsons (who was the PD of WNBC at the time), Jim Collins, "The Real" Bob James, Jay Sorenson (weekday overnights), and Dan Taylor (who was fantastic -- the closest to sounding like Musicradio WABC). There may have been others.

The weekday talk staff was separate. Even Ray D'Ariano who played oldies in middays (after Soupy Sales mercifully left) did not do it under the "Time Machine" formatics. His was an AC type approach (no Time Machine jingles, reverb etc.).

Like most radio fans at that time, I thought it was a lot of fun to hear Musicradio WABC re-created as an oldies format. Dale Parsons (who sometimes posts here) can provide more detail.
